Lehigh University Masters in Financial Engineering Update – June 2020

Lehigh University MS in Management

I wrote about the Lehigh University Masters in Financial Engineering program a while back to help build out the information for this great program as it is the only finance focused graduate program at Lehigh and I thought it would be of interest to all of you. I have noticed over the years that more students have shown cross over interest in both the MSF and MFE program. Time have changed! Check out the update and be on the watch for more content on this program and other MFE’s over the coming months.

Admissions

I wanted to start with this since COVID-19 is having some impact as all of you might imagine. Because of the virus, application deadlines have been extended.

  • International Applicants – Currently rolling
  • Domestic Students – July 15th, rolling thereafter

The GMAT is optional, but there are some requirements. You must have received a GPA of 3.3 or better and have achieved a transcript documented letter grade of B or better in TWO (2) or more quantitative undergraduate courses. Undergraduate courses considered include, calculus, statistics and data analytics. Students must submit course descriptions/syllabi with their application for such coursework to be considered.

The rest of the application process is rather standard and I have mentioned it before so I won’t rehash things. I do want to mention the number of scholarships the program has to help with the cost of admissions. There is a Dean’s Scholarship (full tuition), Director’s Scholarship ($5,000 to full tuition), Yellow Ribbon Program (for veterans) as well as general financial aid.

Graduate Success

I had posted last time about some of the roles and titles that graduates had earned and I found them to be pretty impressive. The program website has a section with each student and where they went to work, providing additional color that I think is beneficial. I will include a sampling of these placements below as well as a link so you can see all of them for yourself.

  • University of Delaware – Ph.D, Research Assistant
  • Dun & Bradstreet – Data Analyst
  • Lehigh University – Ph.D, Research Assistant
  • ICBC – Assistant Manager
  • Goldman Sachs – Associate
  • PWC – Associate, Advisory
  • Janney Montgomery Scott – Investment Banking Analyst
  • RBC Capital Markets – Market Risk Analyst

These are all recent, but you can check out the full list here.

Events

There are a number of upcoming events, all virtual (as would be expected), that I think should be helpful. The school provides some application help as well which I think is nice. There is also a weekly chat that should allow you to stay informed on anything related to the MFE program.

Certificate Program

Something I really like about this MFE program is the option for students to pursue additional certificates in areas that bolster the MFE degree. Certificates are available in Data Science & Financial Analytics, Quantitative Risk Management or Financial Operations Research and can be earned by taking two additional classes during the program. These two additional classes typically involve one requirement and selecting one elective (short list of qualified electives for each certificate).

I am going to try and get a student review or some additional information for all of you on this program, but I think this is a good update. Check back for more soon!
