I first posted about the Iowa State University Masters in Finance a while back when the school was just starting their MSF program. Since then they have graduated a number of students and the website is chock full of additional information. With everything changing so much with this degree, I thought it would be the perfect time to update everyone on this newer masters in finance degree.
2019 Employment Statistics
The university posted the career stats for their 2019 class and they look really good. Per the reporting, 80% of the class was seeking employment and 100% found jobs within 6 months. This is exactly what you want to see. The salary data is listed below, but looks in line with what I have seen at other programs. Bonus information is not mentioned, but this is so variable that I don’t think it is really worth focusing on.
- Base Salary of Graduates
Mean: $66,286
Median: $65,000
Low: $52,000
High: $90,000
The program also includes a list of employers. This is basically the full list of who hired the 2019 graduating class.

STEM Certified
This is key for any program hoping to recruit international students. Having STEM certification allows non-US students additional time on their OPT Visa (up to 36 months) and a massive benefit for those students who require a visa to stay and work in the United State. Good to see the program receiving this so quickly after starting the program. I know some MSF’s who still don’t have this after almost a decade of being in existence. No excuse.
GMAT/GRE Waiver
This one really only benefits Iowa State students. Those with a 3.25 GPA or better do not need to submit GMAT or GRE. I would still inquire as the university might extend this to outside students, especially with COVID happening.

That is the update for now. I love seeing a new program posting employment stats and getting STEM right away. Shows they are focused on transparency and listening to the needs to their students. I will try and get more info on this MSF so make sure you keep checking back.
