The Iowa State University Masters in Finance program launched a couple years ago. It has been a little bit since I last checked in on this MSF and thought it would be good for a proper update. Always great to see a new program launch and I love watching this MSF’s mature and grow. Enjoy the update and stay tuned for more.

Admissions
This program has multiple application deadlines for different start periods throughout the year. This is very helpful for anyone looking for flexibility or have a life circumstance that requires a fall start. Below are the relevant deadlines:
- Fall semester: June 15
- Spring semester: November 15
- Summer semester: March 15 (Domestic students only)
Please note that the GMAT/GRE is no longer required at all. Previously, only Iowa State undergraduates could opt out.
Tuition as of 5/28/24 is the following:
- Iowa residents: $782/credit hour + fees
- Non-residents: $1,746/credit hour + fees
- International students: $1,848/credit hour + fees
The program is 30 credit hours in length so it is rather affordable. There are two graduate assistantships available and there could be additional ones from other departments.
There are double degree and graduate certificate options available as well.
Career Outcomes
The university posted the career stats for their 2022-23 specialized masters (MACC, MSIS, and MSF) and they boast a 100% employment rate. This is great and nice to see them able to do that across all three programs.
- Base Salary of MSF Graduates
Mean: $70,250
High: $85,000
The program also includes a list of employers for all three programs.
BerganKDV | KPMG | Tim Wheeler CPA |
Deloitte | MidAmerican Energy | UHY LLP |
E&Y | Principal Financial | Verizon |
Hilton Worldwide | PwC | Woodgrain |
John Deere | RSM | Workiva |
Ambassadors
Something the program does that I think is really nice is have a number of current students who are willing and available to talk to prospective applicants about their experience in the program. You can check it out here. Each ambassador has a bio and information about themselves as well as a way to contact them.
