The George Mason University Masters in Finance program is a new MSF that I just came across. I can’t imagine it being too old, but I am always excited when I see a new program come online. This is a Washington, DC area program and one with a great history and brand. I will reach out and see if I learn more about when this launched and some additional details for all of you.
Program Overview
This is a one or two year, 33 credit hour, flexible MSF, allowing students the ability to take classes online or on campus. The program is STEM designated which is essential for international students. The university also encourages non-finance undergraduates to apply, something I think is great as those students are generally able to grasp the quantitative aspects of finance much quicker. There is a capstone project with this program and programming is also emphasized.
Admissions
Standard application process. Transcripts, recommendation, and personal reference. GMAT/GRE is optional, but can be helpful depending on your scores.
Deadlines:
- Priority: February 1
- Standard and F1/J1: May 1
- Final: August 1
Tuition:
In State
- $1,110.75 / credit hour
Out of State
- $1,553.75 / credit hour
The GMU MSF has both in and out of state tuition per credit hours. Either option is rather affordable when you consider the proximity to Washington as well as the cost of other programs. Note – there are a number of scholarships and other financial aid options to help reduce your tuition costs.
Miscellaneous
This MSF is part of the CFA Institute Affiliate Program which ensures a portion of the material students are taught coincides with the body of knowledge that the CFA tests you on.

That is what I have right now. I will reach out and see what else I can find out. Looks like they are recruiting for their second class, which is nice as you will have some graduates that you can talk with to get an idea of the feel and benefits of this MSF. Stay tuned!
