The Boston University Masters in Management Studies is another specialized masters offered by BU that I came across when I was checking on the university the other day. It looks like they have some new programs that would interest all of you so I wanted to take some time and write an update on a couple of them. Check out the overview below.
Overview
This is a one year, full time specialized masters program. The degree is comprised of 4 modules with a total of 18 different courses/classes. Across this year students will work on 4 different client based projects, driving home the emphasis on real world experience. The degree is targeting recent graduates who studied non-business majors with the curriculum covering a broad array of business, management, finance and accounting subjects.
Class Profile (2021)
I took a look at the class profile that the school posted and thought the scores as well as diversity really showed well. Applicants had a 14.2% acceptance rate and scores looked competitive with a great split between men and women. Students hailed from around the globe and had a wide range of undergraduate majors (37).
- Class Size – 80 Students (565 Applications Received)
- Average GPA – 3.38
- Average GRE – 321
- Average Work Experience – 6.5 months
- Male / Female – 48% / 52%
Admissions
Pretty standard admissions process, although Boston University requires video essays, something that I am seeing more and more, in addition to three, written, short-answer questions. Applicants are required to submit transcripts, above mentioned video and written essays, resume, and optional GMAT/GRE test results.
Tuition isĀ $61,050 (as of June 2022). This does not include living expenses and other miscellaneous expenses so please consider your personal full cost of attendance. There are a number of merit scholarships available to both domestic as well as international students.
Admission deadlines for the August 2023 program are below:
- November 2, 2022
- February 8, 2023
- April 5, 2023 (Last round for all international applicants who are not currently in the U.S. and on an active F-1 visa)
- May 10, 2023 (For Domestic Students & International Students with a current, active F-1 visa)
Career Information
The program places students rather evenly across industries (Consulting, Financial Services, Healthcare, Tech, etc). They also have some strong placement and salary information as well.
- 88% of MSMS grads seeking employment accepted an offer within 6 months of graduation (cumulative 2017-2021)
- $10K+ Starting salaries of MS grads are $10K higher than the average for U.S. business college graduates (GMAC 2022 survey)
The university provides a sampling of hiring firms. I pulled a handful of names and included them below.
Accenture | Cognizant | Shire |
AT&T | J&J | |
Chubb | KPMG | VistaPrint |
Citi | Oracle | Workday |
