Georgetown University MA in International Business and Policy

The Georgetown University MA in International Business and Policy is an incredibly unique and interesting specialized masters program that I found a while back. This is an amazing opportunity to study at two of the best schools in the country (Georgetown University’s Walsh School of Foreign Service and McDonough School of Business), while combining a business degree with a global perspective. Check out the overview below.

Overview

The university page describes this program better than I ever could:

“Offered by Georgetown University’s Walsh School of Foreign Service and McDonough School of Business, this one-year interdisciplinary program blends the strengths of the oldest and most highly regarded school of foreign service in the world with a top-tier business school that has proven experience in educating global, principled leaders who serve business and society.

The curriculum provides an understanding of the frameworks and mechanisms that drive business and international relations and explores those concepts in contemporary global issues. The program is delivered in six one-week modules (four on-campus and two international) and two four-week online courses over a 12-month period.”

What I really love about this program is the interdisciplinary study, the flexible learning aspect of the online and weeklong classes and the international component. You really do get a great education as well as class experience. The program is really for working professionals and I would consider this an MBA substitute type program.

Class Profile

As mentioned above, this is a program for more established professionals. The class profile really illustrates this.

  • Average Work Experience – 10 years
  • Female / Male – 42% / 58%
  • Class Size – 48 Students
  • 25 % of the class had international citizenship

The class is comprised of students from 12 countries, with 21 different languages being spoken. Very diverse, older, professionally established individuals.

Admissions

Since this program is for individuals with at least 5 years of experience, the focus will be less on grades and test scores and more of leadership ability and what you bring to the class. Below are the required parts of the admissions package:
