Georgetown University MSF Student Review

I am very excited to have received my first Georgetown University MSF Student Review of the program and hope all of you enjoy it. This is a great MSF option for anyone considering the degree. Georgetown does an incredible job with their various specialized masters program and I have been thoroughly impressed with this program since its inception. Check out the review below!

1) Why did you pursue a Masters in Finance program? Why the Georgetown MSF in particular?

I spent multiple years debating whether it made sense to go back to school but eventually decided that I needed to develop more technical proficiency to have the career in finance that I wanted. A Masters in Finance program appealed to me because they provided a deeper dive into the finance specific skill set than I thought I would get with an MBA. The reputation of the McDonough School of Business and the international focus of the Georgetown MSF were both big draws for the program. Being based in Washington, DC I also appreciated being able to attend class in person and access the resources of Georgetown University while still having the flexibility to attend virtually when needed.

2) Pros / Cons (if any) of the program?

Pros: Great faculty and interesting classes. The summer clinics that the MSF program offers in partnership with a diverse range of companies and organizations in Washington, DC provide an opportunity to get real-world experience working on interesting finance and consulting projects.Cons: Not very many opportunities to take electives that deviate from the core course material. More opportunities to interact in-person with the full cohort of students would also be nice.
3) Who would you recommend this degree to?

I would recommend the program to anyone who is interested in a career in finance and is looking to build a more technical skill set. The program covers the basics, making it accessible to someone with no prior finance experience, as well as more advanced concepts. It can be equally valuable to someone who has a specific career path in mind, or someone trying to explore different areas of the field. The program and the University also seem to have particularly strong networks in Washington, DC and New York City so it could be helpful for people interested in building a career in either of those two cities.

4) Anything else you want to talk about that might be helpful?

The Georgetown MSF has a dedicated career services team that is extremely helpful working with students to position them for a career switch/job hunt during the program and remain responsive to help with everything from resume advice to contract negotiation following graduation.

After spending many years on the fence about going back to school I am extremely happy with my decision to enroll in the Georgetown MSF.

Thanks to the individual who review this program! Truly appreciate it and I know all of you who read the site do as well. Hearing from recent graduates is always one of the best ways to get a feel for the program and experience you will have when you apply yourself.
