There have been some updates to the Georgetown University MSF program that I wanted to bring to everyone’s attention. The program continues to grow and mature, which is a positive to everyone considering to apply. The older the programs get, the more refined the material is and the better they get at providing value to current and former students.
Online Information Session – February 26th, 7PM ET
The university has been great at having these information sessions pretty regularly and there is another one coming up right after the new year. Per the website:
“The Information Session will be held virtually and on campus, and will be hosted by Professor Allan Eberhart, the MSF Director, and will detail all aspects of our MSF program, including the industry, job market, revolutionary technology platform, and blended modality. The event will also allow you the opportunity to ask any questions that you may have for Professor Eberhart or our admissions team.”
A great opportunity to hear from the program director and ask questions related to anything about the upcoming cohort.
Georgetown University MSF Consulting Track
This is a great benefit to any Master in Finance student interested in consulting instead of the more common place banking or asset management placements that I would say the majority of students pursue upon graduation with this degree. Participation is the consulting track voluntary and you can participate in as much or as little of the track as you like. Benefits of the consulting track include:
- Monthly discussions on topics related to consulting in both the fall and spring semesters
- 1:1 Advising with an Executive in Residence for Consulting and tailored guidance from the Career Management Director
- Summer Consulting Clinic Experience (Capstone of the Consulting Track)
I think this is great to have and it is nice that the school recognizes that not everyone getting a MSF degree necessarily wants to work in a traditional finance type role. Plenty of consulting jobs out there that touch on the financial services. I am sure this feature of the program will continue to develop and mature as time goes on.
Placement Information
Placements are always front of mind with students interested in this degree. The Georgetown University MSF career services team have been good at providing information related to this. Hopefully in the future a full-fledged placement report will be available, but I would imagine this is difficult as a lot of the students are currently employed (especially for the online option). The information they do provide is helpful.
