The University of Scranton Master of Science in Finance is another addition to the online masters in finance universe. There aren’t many online options for those looking to either study remotely or stay working with advancing their education. I think it is always good to have more optionality so whenever a new program comes about I am pretty excited.
Overview
The program is 30 credit hours in length and can be completed either part time or full time. It was launched in August 2017, and is housed in the AACSB-accredited Kania School of Management. The program is designed around 24 credits of core classes, with two optional electives. Students also have an option to do a 3 day residency on campus in Scranton, PA.
Core classes are as follows:
- FIN 508: Financial Management
- FIN 582: Advanced Financial Management
- FIN 583: Investment Analysis
- FIN 585: Derivative Securities
- FIN 586: Portfolio Theory
- ECO 507: Managerial Economics
- MGT 501: Responsibility, Sustainability & Justice
- FIN 588: Quantitative Analysis of Finance
Admissions
Applicants need to have a B or above from their undergraduate institution. GMAT/GRE can be waived for students with a CFA or three years or more of professional experience. Students will also need to provide 3 letters of recommendation.
Applying is pretty straight forward, with three starting points throughout the year. This makes things really convenient for applicants. The entire program is online so coming to campus is strictly optional.
Tuition Cost
The 10 class program costs $28,950. A very reasonable amount when compared to other programs, both in person and online.
Miscellaneous
There are only a handful of online MSF programs right now so those looking for this kind of flexibility are limited. The program is taught by all of the same faculty as you’d have in person, on campus. You also have some ability to customize the program to your interests.
Also, the program boasts a discount for Wiley study material for the CFA. If you are studying for the certification and use Wiley as your prep material, this is a nice, added benefit.
