Vanderbilt University has just announced that they are starting a new joint masters in finance and law degree program this upcoming fall. This is a pretty exciting announcement as I believe this is the first program of its type (at least in the US). Considering how popular the Vanderbilt Masters in Finance program is I expect this new option to be highly sought after.
Students will have to apply to both the law school and business school. Vanderbilt allows either the GRE or the GMAT for admittance into the MSF program so will probably be most efficient to take the GRE if someone is considering this option. Once admitted, students will have their first two years at the law school, then one full semester at Owen and a mixed semester for the of the third year. Upon completion they will receive both their MSF and JD degree.
I am going to reach out and see if I can get any more specifics regarding this option. This might be an interesting path for anyone considering a restructuring or distressed debt career. Either way it would be a nice hedge for lawyers with an interest in finance. I will keep everyone posted.
