It has been a LONG time since I updated the American University Masters in Finance Program on this site and as part of my new years resolution, I want to refresh the content on the site and update everything. With that spirit, I dug into the American University website and found some stuff I think you all might find interesting.
Career Outcomes
MSF placements and salary information is usually something most students researching these programs want to know. The program has a great statistic that 90% of their graduates are employed, promoted, accepted a new position, or 90% continued their education within three months of graduation. The program also boasts an over $71,000 average starting salary for graduates.
The school doesn’t post a lot of raw placement data, but they do include the firms that hire the most graduates. This list has been pretty consistent from when I first posted about the program, leading me to believe there are some relationships that have been established over the years.
- The World Bank Group
- Booz Allen Hamilton
- Cambridge Associates LLC
- Citi
- Deloitte
- EY
Application Deadlines
For those thinking about applying for this years fall cohort, you have a an upcoming deadline fast approaching. This is also the final deadline for international students. Below are the upcoming rounds and when you need to apply by.
- Round 1 – January 15th (Priority Round for Scholarships)
- Round 2 – March 15th (International Applicants Deadline)
- Round 3 – April 15th
GMAT/GRE
When I first posted on the program they were testing allowing the GRE, as well as allowing people with certain criteria to opt out of the GMAT/GRE. Well they have made both a standard part of the program. Applicants who meet the following criteria can apply for a waiver for their application:
An applicant must meet one (1) of the conditions below and must apply for the waiver using the instructions below:
- A minimum of three years of work experience in the finance industry
- Successful completion of the CFA Level 1
- An undergraduate business degree with a minimum 3.25 GPA (on a 4.0 scale) from an AACSB-accredited business school
- A graduate degree with a minimum 3.0 GPA (on a 4.0 scale) from an AACSB-accredited business school
These options make it rather obtainable to not have to pay the fee and go through the hassle of studying for and taking one of these tests. A very enticing option for a well respected university in a great city.
I will make an effort to try and find a student review or other materials to build out this program on the site. Until then, I hope this update was helpful and continue checking back for more!
