Babson College Masters in Finance Update – October 2018

The Babson College Masters in Finance program started about 4 years ago and an update on the program has been long overdue. Boston is an interesting city in the fact that it has probably the highest concentration of masters in finance programs I have ever seen. Roughly 6-7 programs can be found in the Boston metro area. This means a lot of choice for the consumer and Babson has been working hard to make their program one people check out. I hope this update helps anyone considering the program.

STEM Certification

The Masters in Finance program at Babson College STEM certified, which is extremely important for international students considering MSF programs. This allows for additional time post-graduation (allows international students on a F-1 visa to work in the U.S. for up to 36 months after graduation). Any program without this should definitely be in the process of getting it or else that school will find themselves at a distinct disadvantage when it comes to attracting international students.

Class Profile

Class Profiles are a great way to measure how you stack up with other admitted applicants. I try and post every year as you can see how standards shift year to year. Below is the Babson 2018 class profile.

  • Class Size – 31 Students
  • Avg. GPA – 3.33
  • Avg. GMAT – 626
  • International – 61%

Application Information

The Babson College Masters in Finance program allows students to submit SAT or ACT scores in lieu of the GMAT or GRE. I personally think this is great. Outside of this, the application process is relatively standard (resume, recommendations, transcripts, etc.). The program has the following upcoming application deadlines:

  • October 22th
  • January 4th
  • March 1st
  • April 12th, rolling thereafter

Tuition

Tuition for the Babson College Masters in Finance is $53,040 (as of 10/18). This does not include fees or other mandatory charges that are all part of a college degree. To help offset this cost, Babson provides merit scholarships, grants and also scholarships for Canadian students. These are all for the most qualified candidates and first come first serve. Apply early and do the best you can. Below is a list of Merit Scholarships that Masters in Finance students are considered for.

  • Babson Fellows and Diversity Leadership Fellows receive full-tuition awards for the MSF program, in anticipation of significant academic and professional contributions to the Graduate School
  • Dean’s Scholars receive $20,000 for the MSF program
  • Olin Scholars receive $10,000 for the MSF program
  • Babson Scholars receive $5,000 for the MSF program

A lot of great things going on at Babson College. The school mentions a handful of placements or places where alumni are employed. I will reach out and see if I can get more.
