The MIT Master in Finance program is one of the top MSF’s in the United States and their career services continually showcase the success their graduates have had. I realized that it had been a while since I last updated everyone on this great program and happily I found that they have posted their most recently employment report. As you can expect, the results are phenomenal and the level of detail is always amazing. Below are some highlights that I found while looking at the report. I will include a link to the full PDF for all of you to view.
MIT Master in Finance 2021 Employment Report
Let’s start with the class profile for 2021:
- Class Size – 75
- % International – 88%
- Male / Female – 57% / 43%
- GMAT Range (GMAT Total Range (middle 80%) – 670-750
- GMAT Quantitative Range (middle 80%) – 167-170
- Average GPA – 3.68
- Average Full-Time Work Experience Prior to MIT Sloan – 12 Months
Stats are very strong, which is consistent. Comparing this to last year it looks like MIT has a slightly smaller class, but everything else has stayed relatively consistent.
Now let’s look at placement results:
Of the 75 students, 68 were seeking employment. The rest were not for a variety of reasons, including further education or returning home post graduation. Of those seeking employment, 100% found employment within 6 months of graduating. An amazing accomplishment! The average base salary was $107,784 with an average signing bonus of $27,159. The salary figures have increased YoY which makes sense as salaries in the financial sector have been increasing during Covid.
Geographically, MIT Master in Finance students found employment in the USA (59%) – Boston, NYC and Chicago being the most prevalent metros, Asia (25%) and Europe (13.2%). Some students also went to work in the Middle East. This program truly places students globally and nationally within the United States. This has remains consistent year over year.
Function wise, MIT placed students in roles across the financial industry spectrum. A good portion went into quantitative/data science positions (27%), Quantitative Trading—Research/Sales (21%), Investment Banking (19%), and research (10%). Students also found work in consulting, private equity, risk management, corporate finance and sales & trading.
