Boston College Masters in Finance Program Update – March 2023

I was checking out the Boston College Masters in Finance page the other day and realized it has been a while since I last checked in on this program. This is one of the older MSF’s in the country and one of the first to offer the part time option for working professionals. There continues to be strong interest in this school and program so I thought it would make sense to write an update post for all of you. Enjoy!

2022 Class Profile

Full Time MSF

  • Average UG GPA – 3.55
  • Average GMAT – 687
    • GMAT 80th Percentile – 620–720
  • Average GRE – 325
    • GRE 80th Percentile – 318-335
  • International – 80%
  • Female – 25%

Part Time MSF

  • Average UG GPA – 3.57
  • Average Work Experience – 2 years
  • Female – 14%

My thoughts. The full time program has increased its stats across the board. GMAT, GRE and GPA are all higher year over year. International students are also up, making up the clear majority of the program. Not too much to say about the part time students except that the average years worked dropped from 2.7 to 2.0. It seems as if established, older, working professionals are either not pursing their MSF or looking elsewhere. Does not mean anything negative, just an observation.

Application Deadlines & Tuition

For the upcoming year the below information applies for the full time program. As you can see below, the final scheduled application deadline is fast approaching. Applications received after this date will be on a as need basis.

Tuition for the 2022-2023 academic year is $60,360. This is $2,012 per credit hour for a total of 30 hours for the MSF degree. There are a number of scholarships and other ways to reduce the cost of this program. Make sure you inquire with admissions about this.

Career Information

This information is for the graduated class of 2021 so it is a little old, but I think still very relevant. The university breaks out their information for domestic students and domestic AND international. Both are very similar which is comforting.

Permanent US work authorized students

  • 85% of students accepted full time offers
  • $79,148 – Average base salary for full time offers

Permanent and Non-Permanent US work authorized students

  • 85% of students accepted full time offers
  • $78,597 – Average base salary for full time offers

Boston College doesn’t provide (at least what I can find) employment by class. They provide a running list over 2-3 years for graduates. I’d prefer it to be broken out, but ultimately, graduates of this MSF program go on to work at a number of very well regarded firms.

You have US and International Banks such as:

  • Bank of America
  • Barclays
  • Citi
  • Goldman Sachs
  • HSBC
  • Morgan Stanley
  • UBS

You have all the top accounting firms (Deloitte, E&Y, KPMG, PwC) and you have a number of international firms, largely owning to Boston Colleges sizable number of foreign students (China Construction Bank, Taiking,Zhongzhi Enterprise Group). This is just a quick glimpse of the firms hiring MSF graduates, but should give you an idea of where you can find alumni and the success the university has had.

Things look to be going very well at Boston College. Love seeing the stats for the incoming class increasing, hiring firms look very reputable and cover all the bases when it comes to banking, accounting, valuation, insurance, etc. This will continue to be a great part time option for anyone in the Boston area, which is a great city to start and have a career. And with the program being around so long, there are a ton of MSF alumni for students to network with. Another selling point.
I will keep checking in on this one and make sure to keep all of you updated if anything new comes up.
