The University of South Florida MSF program is another great option for anyone looking to study in the Florida. With the growth in population and finance jobs, interest in Florida based schools has risen. Since it has been a while since I first posted about this MSF, I will use this post as a refreshed overview of the program. Enjoy.
Overview
This is a 30-credit hour degree, with both a full time and part time option. Full-time students can complete the program in three semesters; part-time students can finish in six (or fewer) semesters. I did not notice that this was STEM certified, but I would ask admissions as this might be the case and they just haven’t updated their website.
You can choose from one of four specializations:
- Financial Analysis
- Financial Planning and Wealth Management
- Finance Research
- FinTech
I always love seeing the ability to concentrate and FinTech and Wealth Management are two areas that Florida is incredibly strong in. They University has a speaker series and where MSF students can listen to academics from around the country present their research. I’ve sat in on a few of these and it is a great experience to see what goes into academic research.
Admissions
The admissions process is fairly standard – resume, essays, application, recommendations, etc. GMAT/GRE is required and they advise a minimum of 550 (but they will look at lower scores). There are a number of ways to get this waived (CFA L1, 3.5GPA, etc). Inquire with admissions if you would like to skip the test and apply without it.
Applications are due the following dates:
- Fall: June 1
- Spring: October 15
- Summer: February 15
Tuition is a little harder to specify, but for the 2023-2024 academic year, graduates students will look to pay the following:
Tuition & Fees* | FL Resident -$7,840 | Non Resident – $15,863 |
This looks to be for 18 graduate credit hours so the costs would theoretically double for the full program. If you are a Florida resident, this is incredibly affordable. There are scholarships and other financial assistance available as well. Make sure to inquire directly about the total cost of attendance as this changes frequently.

I will keep checking back to see if things update or change on this program.

Hello Stacee,
Thank you for the update. I have thoroughly gone through the content and curriculum of the Finance programme and I must admit it comprehensive and rigorous. I just applied to the program. However, I still do not know if it’s a STEM certified. I personally do not have much problem with it but I will urge the department to work towards that. Many thanks.
