The MIT Sloan Master of Finance program is probably the best offering in the US right now. A one year finance education at one of the top universities in the United States, combined with outstanding placements year in and year out, make the MIT program highly sought after. Part of what makes MIT so amazing is the fact that they do not get complacent. This new 18-month option is a perfect example of how the program strives to innovate and maintain their edge.
MIT’s new 18 month option is a result of listening to alumni and student feedback. The MSF program can now be completed in 4 semesters instead of 3, allowing for a summer internship for those students who are looking to bolster their experience. Students will also be able to choose either a concentration in capital markets or corporate finance. Applications are being accepted currently with the inaugural 18 month class starting July 2016. You can read more about it here.
I think this is great news for a couple reasons. A lot of programs have been allowing for an extension of their programs which benefits international students greatly. This is also a positive for students who are fresh graduates who might not have had the opportunity to intern at a financial institution. Additionally, the extended timeline allows for a more normal pace which could help certain students do better in their classes. And the original 12 month option still remains so it really does provide a great set of option to anyone considering applying.
