Fairfield University Masters in Finance Update – December 2024

I wrote about the Fairfield University Masters in Finance briefly a number of years ago and seemed to have forgotten about the program all these years. Just recently checked in on the MSF and figured it was time for an update. A lot has changed so I’ll use this post as a new overview of this MSF as so much has changed and my first post was rather limited as the program had just launched at the time.

Overview

This is a 30-credit hour, STEM designated Masters in Finance degree. Students can pursue their degree on a full-time or part-time basis and classes are held in person at the universities Fairfield, CT campus. The 10 classes required for graduation include seven required courses and three electives. You can have either an accounting, business analytics or corporate finance concentration with your degree. Fairfield also offers a number of dual degree options, allowing you to combine your studies. There is a MBA, MS in Accounting and MS in Business Analystics option for those interested.

Admissions

Standard admissions package. Resume, application, personal statement, transcripts and recommendation letters. GMAT/GRE is required, but there is a waiver process for applicants with certain GPA levels, work experience, or who have passed the first level of the CFA exam, among other things. Applications are reviewed on a rolling basis and with a fall and spring start date.

Tuition for the 2024-2025 academic year is $1,195 per credit hour. That comes out to $35,850 in tuition for the MSF program. This is on the more affordable end of the spectrum. There are a number of scholarships and graduate assistantships available as well. Make sure to inquire and apply for all of these to help bring down the final cost of attendance. Lower the cost, higher the return on investment.

Class Profile

The website doesn’t mention what year this class profile is for, but I would consider this indicative of the approximate profile that Fairfield looks for when deciding who to admit.

  • Average GPA – 3.58
  • Average Age – 24
    • Age Range – 21-34
  • Male / Female – 65% / 35%

This is a limited profile, but you can tell that the students who make up the MSF will be a mix of fresh graduates and older, more experienced individuals. GPA is solid and with this average GPA most students will not need the GMAT/GRE.

That is all the information I could find for now. This University is located close to NYC and pretty affordable. If you are local or considering a degree that gives your close proximity to New York, this should be one you check out. I’ll see if I can speak with admissions and get a little more information for everyone.
