Georgetown University MSF 2021 Career Report

I just received notices that the Georgetown University MSF program has released their placement information for the 2021 class. I am always excited when these reports come out as career information is one of the most important datapoints for a prospective student. The career center at Georgetown has always done a phenomenal job and this year continues this trend. I will hit what I think are the high points below as well as provide a link so you can see the full report for yourself. Enjoy!

Salary

The program for the first time is breaking out salary by experience level, something I think is particularly relevant since this MSF has a range of limited to more experienced individuals. The average base salary for all graduates is $112,139 and the median was $100,000. This is the third year in a row where the median met or exceeded $100,000.

For less experienced MSF students (three years or less), graduates reported the following:

  • Average base salary of $97,571
  • Median base salary of $90,000
  • Average bonuses of $44,577

Graduates with four or more years of work experience reported, as you would expect, higher figures.

  • Average base salary of $120,189
  • Median base salary of $118,000
  • Average bonuses of $44,738
  • Bonuses and options worth up to $500,000

Something to note for anyone in the experienced category considering the program – graduates received a 59% average increase in their base salary in the time between admission and graduation. Very impressive and shows that employers recognize the value and career benefits of the program even before completion.

Placement

For younger graduates, who are earlier in their career and typically using the masters as a way to break into their desired career, 100% were employed within six months of graduation. This is the gold standard and any time you see such a high placement rate you know the students and university are working hard and together. For experienced graduates, 78.9% of them utilized the MSF degree to earn a promotion at their current firm or to change jobs. Love seeing this as it shows that the degree is valuable regardless of experience.

Hiring Firms

The Georgetown University MSF program class of 2021 placed at countless top firms. I pulled a sampling of firms that jumped out at me, but there are many more on the full report that the school puts out (I will include this below).

AccentureDeloitte Midcap Financial
AppleFidelity InvestmentsMorgan Stanley
Bank of AmericaGoldman SachsToll Brothers

CitigroupJPMorgam ChaseUS Lumber

My thoughts are that this program places students at all the top financial firms as well into top consulting and F500 jobs. You see a lot of government placements as well, owing to the location of the university as well as many students being employed in the government while going back to school. All in all, these are amazing results.

You can read the full press release here. The detail is very helpful. I hope all of you considering this program find this helpful. The university continues to have great results and prove itself to be one of the best MSF programs not only in the USA, but globally.
