I am going to use this post as a complete refresh on the Golden Gate University Master in Finance program. I first about this MSF fifteen years ago so definitely time to redo the overview on this one. This is a flexible program with multiple start dates and being located in San Francisco is something I know many of you might be interested in. Enjoy the overview.
Overview
This is a 30 credit hour MSF program offered Hybrid and Online, located in the heart of the San Francisco Financial District. For international students, this is a STEM Certified MSF, allowing up to 2 years after graduation on an OPT. The program has a technical analysis concentration and is recognized by the Chartered Financial Analyst (CFA) Institute as part of its University Affiliation Program.
Some quotes from students:
“If I could summarize my experience at Golden Gate University in one word, I would use the word transformative because of the experiences that I’ve had with my instructors and professors. The classes are very impactful with a detailed and meticulous curriculum that is applicable to my current job.”
“I’m grateful to have completed my undergraduate, graduate, and CFP® certification programs at Golden Gate University, ensuring a seamless and high-quality education in one place. The university’s rigorous academics, supportive community, and commitment to professional growth—along with valuable resources like its extensive library and Small Business Entrepreneur program—gave me the skills and confidence to launch my firm, Joyner Financial Planning. I’m proud to be part of an alumni network that values lifelong learning and real-world impact.”

Careers
The website doesn’t have a specific career section, but there is dedicated career support for this program and students of the business school. Also, the following employers and positions were listed:
- International Tax Partner, KPMG
- Chief Financial Officer, Aspect Energy
- VP, Global Banking & Markets, Policy & Documentation Risk, Goldman Sachs
- Financial Advisor, Morgan Stanley
- Senior Revenue Analyst, LinkedIn
- Finance Program Manager, Stanford Health Care
- Financial Analyst, Visa
- Director, Loan Review & Credit Risk Audit, Bank of the West (BMO)
- Lead Financial Analyst, Voya Financial
- Head of Data Management Solutions, Retail Investor Group, Vanguard
- Senior Investment Manager, Private Wealth Management, Fidelity Investments
I would imagine that the bulk of the alumni work in the San Francisco area so if you network well you should be able to make the appropriate connections to help with your job search. And being located in a major financial hub should allow you to intern or work during the program (if you want).

I am glad I checked in and redid this overview as the first one was lacking. This is a great option for anyone in the Bay area or West Coast in general. I will check in on this one more frequently and try and keep all of you updated as changes appear.
