Rochester Institute of Technology Master in Finance Update – April 2025

Since the last post on the Rochester Institute Master in Finance program was brief and ages ago, I will use this post as an updated program overview for anyone who is thinking about applying for this MSF. RIT is a respected institution and one that I know very well from my time Upstate. I will make an effort to not let information on this one lapse.

Overview

This is a 31 credit hour, one year program that is STEM certified. The materials you will learn incorporate CFA material designed to prepare you for the CFA exam if you decide to pursue this. The program is very flexible and incorporates programing software as well as topics in fintech. Since this is a technology focused university, I would expect this MSF to be more quantitatively focused.

You are required to take 15 credit hours classes on accounting, financial decision making, options and futures, security and investment analysis and field exam preparatory. Outside of these required classes you can pick nine finance electives and nine STEM electives.

Please note that there is both a full time and part time option. The full time option is the only one that is STEM certified.

Career Information

RIT has some career information for the class of 2023 that looks very promising.

First-Year Full-Time Salary of RIT Finance MS Graduates

  • Average – $74,200

The program had an 83.3% placement rate within 6 months of graduation. Here is a list of selected hiring firms:

  • Peppino’s Food Inc.; AMG Technology; Invata Intralogistics; T3 Trading Group, LLC; TD Securities; MAI Capital Management

The program offers the opportunity for a co-op, allowing for hands on experience with a local employer. I’ve known a few universities that do this and it is very helpful in providing work experience while studying.

Admissions

Admissions for this program are rolling with the full time cohort being admitted in the fall and the part time cohort having both a spring and fall admission.

Application process is standard. GMAT/GRE are not required, but suggested for international students. A minimum GPA of 3.0 is recommended.

Tuitions is a little confusing, but if you take $2,574 per credit hour and multiply it by 31 credit hours you get $79,794 in tuition for the program. The university boasts a lot of financial aid, scholarships and other forms of assistance so I would consider this tuition amount a starting point, not the end. Also, something to consider, Rochester, NY is relatively cheap on a cost of living basis so you will save when you look at the all in cost.

Glad I checked back in with this program and gave it a proper refresh. I will keep an eye on this program and if I see anything change, I will let you all know.
