The University of Pittsburgh Masters in Finance program is one of the newer MSF’s and I am long overdue for an update. I was checking on the website and there are a few updates I thought made sense to bring to everyones attention. Pitt is a great state school and this is a nice addition to their roster of graduate programs.
Update
When I first wrote about the program, there was only an August start. There now looks to be a part-time option as well, starting in the fall, spring (January), or summer (May) and finishing in two years. The MSF is also a CFA Institute University Affiliate meaning that Katz offers a finance curriculum covering 70 percent of the topics on the CFA exam. This is great as not only is the coursework relevant, but there are also scholarships for anyone considering the CFA exam.
Tuition for in-state residents looks to currently be $33,738 and for out-of-state residents it is $49,236.
Application is standard and GMAT/GRE are optional. The admissions website does mention that if you do not have the following criteria you are encouraged to take the test:
- An undergraduate cumulative GPA of 3.25 and a B (3.00) average or higher in a minimum of 6 credits of quantitative coursework (on a 4.0 grading scale) OR
- Have earned a graduate and/or professional degree
Admissions is on a rolling basis with the below application deadlines:
Application Deadlines |
Early Advantage Deadline: October 15 (decision by November 15) |
Round One Deadline: January 1 |
International Final Deadline: April 1 |
Domestic Final Deadline: July 1 |

That is the update for now. There wasn’t a ton of new information, but some subtle changes since the program launched. If you are a Western PA native or looking for a Pennsylvania school, definitely check this program out.
