University of Virginia Masters in Commerce Update – July 2022

The University of Virginia Masters in Commerce program is one of the most popular specialized masters and one that has been around for a while now. I realize it has been a while since i last updated everyone on the program and when I checked out the site I found a bunch of things I think most of you would be interested in. Below is what I found and an update on this perennially top notch masters.

Class Profile

UVA provides a typical class profile, which is an average over the last three classes, that reflects the students who apply and are accepted into the program. What they have on their site is pretty detailed and very helpful.

  • Class Size – 120 students
  • International – 26%
  • Female – 37%
  • GMAT Range (Mid-80%) – 580-720
  • GRE Range (Mid-80%) – 307-328
  • GPA Range (Mid-80%) – 3.2-3.8

About 2/3rds of the class is from students outside the UVA system, something I always look for. As this program seeks out and only admits students with non-business undergraduate degrees, the range of majors is rather expansive. The program also has three tracks to choose from and admitted students seem to choose them fairly evenly.

Careers

I need to check to see if the career information is being updated currently, but considering COVID, I think the information below still is relevant.

Key Take Aways:

  • Based on the 100 students reporting destinations, 94% reported employment within 6 months of graduation
  • 68% of jobs were facilitated through McIntire and UVA
  • Average annual base salary was $69,500
  • 66% of international students found work outside of their home country and 59% found work in the United States after graduation

Specialty Tracks

The UVA program has had three tracks for a while now – Business Analytics, Finance and Marketing & Management. There is now a fourth option, Biotechnology, for life science majors. I think this is great news and should be of interest for a lot of applicants to the program. I do not think any other MSF or specialized business masters program offers something like this either.

I will keep an eye out for the updated career information as I am sure it will be available soon. If anything else changes or updated, I will get it posted here for all of you to read.
