University of Virginia Masters in Commerce Update – June 2024

The University of Virginia Masters in Commerce program is one of the top specialized masters program in the country and one that is always asked about. UVA does an incredible job with placements and creating a well balanced and engaging class for students to participate in. It has to be over 20 years old at this point with a large body of MS Commerce alumni. Definitely a program to check out and if you come from a non-business background, one to target.

Class Profile – 2023-24

UVA always provides a very comprehensive class profile and I have posted a number of them over the years. Helpful in determining your relative strength as well as looking at how the programs competitiveness has changed over the years.

  • Class Size – 126 students
  • International – 19%
  • Female – 42%
  • GPA Range (Mid-80%) – 3.2-3.8
  • Non-UVA Undergraduate – 42%

The GRE/GRAT is not required for admissions. Below is a previous range from my prior post.

  • GRE Range (Mid-80%) – 307-328

The program is very diverse, having 26 languages spoken and 39 different undergraduate institutions represented. There are four tracks that students can choose from. Below are the percentages of the students that are in each.

  • Biotechnology – 13%
  • Business Analytics – 28%
  • Finance – 21%
  • Marketing & Management – 37%

Placement Information

UVA also does a great job of detailed placement information. Their site has a number of graphs, placement by geography, full time vs internships, etc. Below are highlights of the graduating class of 2023 success.

I looked at their placements by geography and most are East Coast focused (makes sense), but there are graduates working in Chicago, Denver, San Francisco and elsewhere. Definitely a program that you can use to advance your career across the country.

Currently the program is accepting applications on a space available, rolling admissions until June 30th. It looks like next years applications will start in October 2024 so if you miss this year you have the summer to get ready for next year.

Cost of Attendance

  • In-State – $46,010
    • Global Immersion Fee $5,259
  • Out-of-State & International – $52,648
    • Global Immersion Fee $5,258

Tuition for this program is pretty competitive and a great value when you compare it with other MSF programs of similar calibre.

That is the update for now. There are a number of upcoming admissions event that you can find here. Definitely try and attend one of these. I think they show well when you apply and are also a great way to speak with admissions and ask all the questions you really want to know. Keep checking back and I will make an effort to update this program more often.
