Georgia State University Masters in Finance Student Review #5

Georgia State University MSF Program

The Georgia State University Masters in Finance program has been incredibly responsive in helping find student reviews and other information for their MSF program. I think the reviews are very helpful whenever someone is considering to attend a program and the fact that this will be the 5th review posted should give students a sizable number of reviews to consider when making their decision. Hope this helps and I will continue working to get info on all these different MSF programs!

1) Why an MSF in general? Why the Georgia State University MSF specifically?

I always knew that I wanted to do a masters in finance abroad, so it was easy for me taking this decision. I have studied finance before, but I felt that a masters would give me stronger foundations, and I could have the possibility to deepen in some of the topics that I have more interest in, like corporate finance and capital markets. And I was correct; this program has given me all those things. It is not only about learning concepts, but it is also about applying them to real-life problems, gaining analytical skills and being prepared to take better financial decisions.

I chose the master in Finance from Georgia State University for several reasons:

  • It has a competitive tuition compared to the similar programs in the country.
  • It is a fast track program (16 months).
  • It offers several companies’ connections and significant networking opportunities.
  • It has talented and highly skilled professors, recognized in the industry, and specialized in many aspects of finance.
  • The city has a reasonable cost of living, the weather and people are great.

2) Who would you recommend an MSF to?

I would recommend to anyone that wants to acquire strong knowledge in Finance and is willing to work hard. Also, people that want to perform financial positions in the corporate or financial sector. It is not required to have financial knowledge or previous experience, but it is a plus if you want to make the most of the program.

3) Pros/Cons (if any)?

  • There are some required classes, but you can choose four electives according to the area that you want to focus on.
  • Networking opportunities and company connections.
  • Academic and administrative support: the graduate student services team is extremely helpful and looking forward to assisting the MS Finance students.
  • It offers the opportunity to do an internship, where you can gain working experience. The faculty and staff are very supporting to help you in the process.
  • GRA opportunities that will help you to develop research capabilities, gain additional knowledge, and receive a partial tuition waiver.
  • The university has a very competitive program called Panthers on Wall Street, which is directed to finance and accounting students. The goal of this free program is preparing students to work in the financial industry in New York, and it gives you the opportunity to visit several companies to network and look for job opportunities.

4) Anything else you’d like to talk about. You can discuss Atlanta, recruiting, alumni help, etc. Whatever you think would be helpful to students trying to decide whether or not to attend.

  • Atlanta is awesome, friendly people, a lot of culture, good weather and tons of activities, concerts, and places to visit on the weekends. It also has the biggest airport in the, so you will find for sure flights to several destinations around the world.
  • You will have access to the previous cohorts and alumni, which give you tips, advice, and support through the duration of the program. You will have some activities where students and alumni can interact and get to know better.
  • Faculty and staff are very approachable, and you can reach them at any moment, even if you want to ask something outside the program.
  • Finally, I would say that the program is enriching and enjoyable, it worth every dollar you pay. You will learn in every class and will have opportunities to network and interact with business professionals, gaining experience for your future positions.

All in all, a lot of great things going on at Georgia State. I will work to keep updating everyone as updated become available for this program. Until then, you can check out prior posts on the program below.
