The Northeastern University Masters in Finance is yet another great Boston option for anyone considering a MSF. It has been far too long since I checked in on this program and there is a bunch of things new that I want to touch on. Sorry for the delay!
Overview Update
This program is primarily designed for working professionals, with two night time options – 530PM and 730PM. The full time program is for the masters in quantitative finance and this is where recent graduates should focus. The GMAT/GRE is optional now and no longer requires a waiver. More and more schools are moving towards this standard. Another nice thing about this program is the credits you earn in the MSF can be applied to an MBA later on down the road.
You can really customize your learning with this program. Students can take up to 7 years to complete your degree. You can also double up on classes, taking one at 530PM and another at 730PM. All depends on your time demands and schedule.
Admissions
Standard application package – resume, recommendations, transcripts, and online interview. The Part Time MSF has rolling admissions with a September start so plenty of time to get your package together.
Application Deadlines | Decision Notifications | Classes Begin |
---|---|---|
Jan. 9, 2025 | Rolling Basis | September |
March 27, 2025 | Rolling Basis | September |
May 15, 2025 | Rolling Basis | September |
June 26, 2025 | Rolling Basis | September |
Aug. 7, 2025 | Rolling Basis | September |
Tuition for the program is $1,816 per credit hours which comes out to $54,480 in tuition (as of Jan 2025). This is a pricing point in the middle of what I am seeing right now. I’d say this program becomes very enticing if you have tuition reimbursement at your job. Also, the fact that you don’t need to stop working for a year while you earn this eliminates the opportunity cost of the degree.
Careers
The career report for the MBA class includes results from the part time MSF. Makes sense as both would be similar students and work experience profiles. While not perfect, this is very helpful.

I would consider this to be list of firms to target when networking if you happen to be looking for another job. Boston has a very strong job market and this university has a good presence in the city. I’ve been writing about the MSF program at Northeastern for over a decade so there should be a good base of alumni to reach out to as well.
