The Temple University Masters in Financial Engineering program not only provides students with a world class education in quantitative finance, but also incorporates the FRM exam into classroom studies. In fact, students can complete both levels of the FRM during their 12 or 22 months of studying for their MSFE degree (there is also a part time option available for those working/living in the Philadelphia area).
Curriculum covers all the major subjects that one would expect. Risk Management, Global Markets, Statistical Analysis, Derivative Models (Stochastic Calculus, Numeric Methods, etc). Students can pick and choose classes depending on their interests and career goals.
The director of the program has an impressive and relevant background. Holding both his CFA and FRM, Dr. Soss has worked hard to create and build up a relevant program for students and employers.
While it looks like they don’t have placements on their website (I am going to work on getting them for all of you), I checked Linkedin and I see a number of graduates at PNC, Blackrock, and JPMorgan (risk management). All three have a large presence in Philadelphia as well. This was cursory so wait until I get more information before judging, but I know many Temple graduates and the school has a very strong alumni connection in Philadelphia. Philly isn’t NYC when it comes to finance, but there are plenty of well respected employers and the cost of living is a fraction of what it is in New York.
Tuition for the program is fairly reasonable, coming in at $32, 460. This is pretty low compared to a number of other programs. Additionally, students with high GMAT’s and/or GPA’s are eligible for merit based scholarships.
