University of Rochester MSF Update – January 2017

University of Rochester Masters in Finance

It has been a little while since I last updated everyone on the University of Rochester MSF program and a lot has changed. There is a new class profile posted, just received STEM certification and have updated placement statistics. All great stuff. Hope this helps anyone thinking about the Rochester program.

STEM Certification

Starting the 2017-2018 class year, the Rochester MSF program received STEM certification. This is great for international students as it allows for up to a 2 year OPT extension post graduation. A lot of MSF programs are working to get this as it is very important for international students when choosing a program.

Read about it in full here.

Class Profile

  • Class Size – 183
  • Number of Countries Represented – 21
  • GPA (middle 80% range) – 2.9 – 3.8
  • GMAT (middle 80% range) – 620 – 730
  • GRE (middle 80% range) – 306 – 325

Overall, pretty diverse and attainable stats for anyone thinking of applying. Class is also evenly split between men and women, something pretty rare among MSF programs.

Placements

So this is the most asked about thing when students are looking at programs. Rochester has pretty good stats, with 84% of those seeking employment finding a job within 3 months of graduation. Average salary of $61,300 is very respectable as well.

The list of employers is equally impressive. Diverse, large banks and F500 firms. Hiring both domestic and international students.

Placements are 67% in the US and 33% overseas. Considering the brand the University of Rochester has outside of the United States, this gives some great optionality for international students wanting to work in the US, but willing to go back to their home nation if that fails. All in all, I found this placement report to be very comprehensive and helpful in understanding the impact this program has on their students. I left feeling very impressed.

The full report is a PDF, which I have downloaded from the Rochester site and uploaded here.
