The Ohio State University SMF program is nearing their final application deadline so I thought it would be helpful to provide an update of the program for everyone still considering dropping an application. They have a new class profile that I think should help anyone trying to decide if it is worth applying. More information to follow. Enjoy!
2020 Class Profile
The class of 2020 is slightly smaller than the previous years class (34 vs 48). I would consider this an anomaly caused by COVID-19. The other stats are relatively in line with prior years, with an exception of the dramatic reduction in international students. I would expect the class size and some of the statistics to increase this year as we exit the lockdown and return to a more normal teaching environment.
- Class Size – 34 students
- Male/Female – 68% / 32%
- International – 29%
- Average Undergraduate GPA – 3.45
- Average GMAT score- 598
- Average GRE Composite – 310
Admissions
I’ve posted a number of time about the application process and I don’t see anything new to report on. GMAT/GRE is required for all applicants so please keep this in mind. There is one remaining deadline for anyone interested in applying, but depending on space available, applications can be accepted after this date. Check in with graduate office.

3Qualified applications may be accepted after the final application deadline(s) on a space-available basis. Contact fisher_smf@fisher.osu.edu with any questions.
Tuition
I pulled this right from the website –
“The total cost of enrollment in the Fisher SMF program is determined by the student’s residency status. Estimated tuition and fees are based on the 2020-2021 academic year and are subject to change.”
Annual Ohio Resident Tuition and Fees* | $56,691 |
Annual Non-Resident and International Student Tuition and Fees* | $56,701 |
*Includes the following: General Tuition & Instruction, Student Activity Fee, Student Union Fee, Recreation Fee, Learning-Technology Fee, COTA Bus Fee.
When comparing programs I would make sure to back out the fees from the Ohio State program to get the base tuition figure. It will be lower than the above figures, although these are the more accurate full cost of the program.
Also note that there are a number of fellowships and scholarships available. I encourage everyone to apply for these as many do not and they are left unused.
Career Outcomes
I was checking around for placement information and the best that I could find was recent salary data for the SMF program. I will check with the school and see if I can dig anything up.

This is the update for now. This is one of the older Masters in Finance programs, in fact, it is one of the first that I have visited. Ohio State has consistently produced some great MSF graduates and the number of alumni from this program is pretty large at this point. Definitely one of the main programs in this space.
