Ohio State University SMF Update – January 2025

The Ohio State University - Fisher College of Business

Starting the new year off with an update on the Ohio State University SMF Program! Was checking in on OSU and noticed they have a new incoming class profile as well as some major program changes. This is one of the original MSF’s that launched over a decade ago and the program has had a long history of success. Because of this the OSU MSF program is always one that students are interested in.

Program Updates

Looks like the Ohio State University SMF has undergone some big changes. Program is now 3 semesters, allowing for a summer internship and more electives. The GMAT/GRE is now fully optional. There is a bigger focus on career management and services for students as well. You can read about all the changes here.

My takeaway is this. Love it. The summer internship will be incredibly helpful for students with limited work experience. The focus on professional development is always a good thing. More electives is a benefit as well, allowing you to customize your education to the career you are targeting. More broadly, just love seeing a program listen to feedback and evolve.

2024 Class Profile

The Ohio State Class Profile is always detailed and I will provide some comments as well as compare and contrast from the 2023 profile.

  • Class Size – 34 students
  • GMAT Score Average – 610
    • 80% Range – 510 – 700
  • GRE Composite – 308
    • 80% Range – 285 – 319
  • GPA Average – 3.51
    • 80% Range – 3.08 – 3.92
  • International – 47%
  • % with work experience <1 year – 70%

Compared to the previous class profile (you can read about it here) things look pretty consistent. Big difference is that the number of international students has decreased significantly. Last year over 80% of the class was international and this year it is under half. This can be driven by a number of things so it isn’t good or bad, but it does indicate that more domestic students are applying or considering a MSF. All the other scores have remained consistent.

Admissions

The main thing that has changed is now the GMAT/GRE is not required. Previously you could get a waiver, now this isn’t required. As always, you can still take the test if it helps your application, but it is not required. Everything else is standard (Transcripts, Resume, Essay, Video Interview). Letters of Recommendation are option, but always nice.

Tuition (3 semesters, full-time) Cost
Ohio Resident Tuition and Fees* $47,000
Non-Resident and International Student Tuition and Fees* $68,000

*Includes the following: General Tuition & Instruction, Student Activity Fee, Student Union Fee, Recreation Fee, Learning-Technology Fee, COTA Bus Fee.

(Figures listed here for 2025 are pending Board of Trustees approval. Subject to change) – I wanted to include this from the schools website. As of posting (Jan 2025) this is what it says. Please check back to confirm.

Something very interesting to note. Tuition for Ohio residents dropped by nearly $10,000 while tuition for non-Ohio residents has increased by around $10,000. If you are an Ohio resident you definitely love this.

Below is the upcoming application deadlines. Admissions reviews completed packages as they are received so if you submit before the deadline you will not have to wait for them to start considering you. Get your application done as soon as you can!

Date Note
January 10, 2025 Priority consideration for merit-based financial aid/scholarships for complete applications1
March 21, 2025 International students: Final application deadline for admission consideration.2
May 23, 2025 Domestic students: Final application deadline for admission consideration.2

All admitted applicants are automatically considered for financial aid/scholarships as long as funds are available.

Qualified applications received after the final deadlines are reviewed on a space-available basis. All admitted applicants are automatically considered for financial aid/scholarships as long as funds are available.

I’ll shoot OSU and email and catch up with them. Big changes going on with this program, all positive in my opinion.
