I haven’t updated the Ohio State University SMF program in ages and that is unfortunate as it was one of the earlier Masters in Finance programs out there. I’ve been making an effort to post more often and decided that this was one of the programs needing an update. Luckily, there is a bunch of good information on the program that I can include in the post below.

2022 Class Profile
Ohio State always does a good job at providing a pretty detailed class profile. If you go to their website you can see a nice infographic as well. Helpful in conveying the message and illustrative of the program they have built.
- Class Size – 42 students
- GMAT Score Average – 665
- 80% Range – 590 – 720
- GRE Composite – 315
- 80% Range – 301 – 327
- GPA Average – 3.42
- 80% Range – 3.05 – 3.91
- International – 90%
- Average Years Work Experience – 2.4
My thoughts – Good size class, in line with what I have seen before with this program. The big change is that international students now make up 90% of the program. When I last featured a class program in 2020 (see the post here) the percentage was 29%. This isn’t good or bad, just a change in the program. I will have to reach out and see if there is any color or if this is say a temporary spike.
Admissions
Standard process and has not changed. Resume, GMAT/GRE, Recommendations, Essays, etc. Ohio State undergraduates can get a GMAT waiver if they were finance majors and got a 3.5 or above. Everyone else needs to sit for the test.
One remaining application round for anyone considering applying:
May 30, 2023 | Domestic students: Final application deadline for admission consideration. |
Applications received after this are on a first come, first serve basis.
Tuition
I pulled this right from the website (3/23) –
“The total cost of enrollment in the Fisher SMF program is determined by the student’s residency status. Estimated tuition and fees are based on the 2022-2023 academic year and are subject to change.”
Annual Ohio Resident Tuition and Fees* | $56,691 |
Annual Non-Resident and International Student Tuition and Fees* | $56,701 |
*Includes the following: General Tuition & Instruction, Student Activity Fee, Student Union Fee, Recreation Fee, Learning-Technology Fee, COTA Bus Fee.
This is nice because I compared this with my last post and looks like they have kept tuition static. I would say to please check with admissions as there are cases where the website isn’t always updated/correct.
Career Outcomes
The program is posting some very strong career outcomes and I am pretty impressed.
- Average Starting Salary (US) – $80,166
- Placement (6 months after graduation) – 87% overall
- Domestic – 91%
- International – 86%
Students go into a variety of fields and have been placed across the country. There is a nice list of hiring firms over the last 3 years – all the top banks, F500 companies, consulting and tech firms. Ohio State has been placing students for over a decade now so the list of alumni is rather expansive. Check out this link for all the details and information.
Recent graduates have been hired by the following:
- Amazon
- ICBC
- Morgan Stanley
- United
- Raymond James
- Huntington Bank
- Principal
- Deloitte
- and many more

I thought this was a good update and I really liked seeing how great Ohio State has been doing since I last checked on the program. Students continue to find success and the cost is reasonable for this established MSF degree. Definitely one to keep on your short list.
