Was checking in on the University of Chicago Masters in Finance program and saw some updates that I wanted to post about. This is a newer MSF and exciting to see such a prestigious institution offering this degree. I’ll make sure to stay close to this one.
2025 Class Profile
The Chicago MSF has a larger class size and currently it is predominately international. GPA and GRE scores look impressive and what one would expect from a university of this calibre. Nice ratio of men and women in the program, something I have been seeing more often.
- Class Size – 116
- Average Undergraduate GPA – 3.75
- International – 82%
- Male / Female – 59% / 41%
- Average GRE
- Quantitative – 169.25
- Verbal – 161.63
Career Focus
While there are no placements as of yet (I am sure when they come out they will be top tier), the website does mention the focus this program has on career outcomes. In addition to the boothcamp at the beginning, there is a 10-week Succeeding in the Workplace course that helps prepare students for interviews as well as success once hired. All students will have access and support through the career services department as well.
Admissions
The application window usually opens in January for this program, but I will keep an eye out to see when this starts up again. Nothing new from the tuition from or the application process, but below is what I posted back in January:
From the schools admissions website:
“The Asness and Liew Master in Finance Program is for accomplished recent college graduates in quantitative fields of study who are searching for a masters degree that builds on their analytical aptitude and allows them to start a career in finance with a competitive advantage over their peers.”
Requirements to apply are straight forward – application, resume, transcripts, recommendations, essays. GMAT or GRE is required (waivers for successful Chicago undergraduates are available). Prerequisites for the program are recommended and as follows:
“Advanced quantitative coursework and have exposure to coding. Examples include: Linear Algebra, Statistics, Multivariable Calculus, Python, C++”
–
More to come in the future, but the class profile definitely gives a snapshot of the kind of student
