Very excited to announce a new program I found. The University of Chicago Masters in Finance is a new MSF taught at the prestigious Booth School of Business. This is amazing news and I am always excited to see the degree grow.
Overview
The Asness and Liew Master in Finance Program is a 15 months program spanning 13 total courses (4 core classes and 9 electives). Students can specialized in 3 areas: Asset Management, Investment Banking, and Fintech. Students start their studies in August with a two week “Boothcamp” to provide you with skills necessary to thrive in the program. Coursework is spread over 4 quarters and includes a required summer internship.
This is a STEM designated program as well. Essential for international students looking to study in the US. Graduates of the Booth MSF will be able to apply those credit hours to the accelerated MBA in either a full time or part time basis. This is an incredible benefit.
The core classes will be held as a cohort and the electives will MBA classes that you can choose from. You’ll be able to network and build bonds with both your MSF classes as well as MBA students. Classes will be held at both the Harper Center and Gleacher Center.
Admissions
From the schools admissions website:
“The Asness and Liew Master in Finance Program is for accomplished recent college graduates in quantitative fields of study who are searching for a masters degree that builds on their analytical aptitude and allows them to start a career in finance with a competitive advantage over their peers.”
Requirements to apply are straight forward – application, resume, transcripts, recommendations, essays. GMAT or GRE is required (waivers for successful Chicago undergraduates are available). Prerequisites for the program are recommended and as follows:
“Advanced quantitative coursework and have exposure to coding. Examples include: Linear Algebra, Statistics, Multivariable Calculus, Python, C++”
Application Deadlines are coming very soon as well.
- Application Deadline: January 9, 2025
- Decision Release: Week of March 3, 2025
Tuition for the program is $115,000. This is obviously a premium price for a Masters in Finance degree. The duration of the program impacts this as does the Chicago Booth brand and experience.
Miscellaneous
Since this is a new program there isn’t any career information at this time. I have zero doubt the placements from this MSF will be outstanding. The university does have some upcoming admissions events you can zoom into. They also have previous recorded events that you can watch. You can find them here.

That is all I have for now. Obviously, very excited to see this launch. I’ll make sure to check back on this program often as I am sure it will become one of the top MSF program in the country.
